Supporting young adults on their journey to independance

Quality & Purpose of Care

Our homes welcome young people from diverse backgrounds. It is our core objective to provide high quality care in a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment that meets the needs of our young people. We will provide individualised care packages which work towards developing effective attachments, and longer-term stable placements. We encourage the young people to take ownership and invest in their plan.

Our home will provide a safe space for young people to share experiences and be guided by our team of experienced practitioners who are non-judgemental, within a nurturing environment that encourages learning, growth and acceptance, preparing them to build stability, confidence and resilience.

Brighter Placements

At Brighter Stays, our aim is to offer shared housing for individuals of all genders aged 16 and over. Our goal is to provide high-quality accommodation for young people aged 16 and over, helping them acquire the skills necessary for a successful transition into adulthood. With the support of our experienced team, we assist our residents in developing self-reliance, self-care, and independent living skills vital for making informed decisions and preparing for a prosperous future. Each resident's support package is tailored to their individual needs and desired outcomes, ensuring a personalised approach to their pathway and future aspirations.

Young Voices & Emotions

At Brighter Stays, we make sure that young people's opinions matter in everything we do. While we have informal chats as part of daily life, we also think it's important to formally acknowledge their views.

That's why we hold monthly house meetings where their thoughts are written down, and they can see what's been discussed. We want them to join in these meetings and share their ideas about how things are run, talk about their day, plan fun stuff to do, and celebrate their own and each other's achievements.

These meetings are a big part of how we do things here, creating a supportive atmosphere where young people feel heard and valued.

Academic Journey

The home is not accredited as a school, but we work with the accommodating authority to decide on the best education path for the young person. We have strong connections with various mainstream sixth forms and specialised colleges nearby, ensuring opportunities to promote the educational success of each individual.

Physical Well-Being

The well-being, both physical and mental, of our young individuals is our top priority. We actively advocate for a healthy lifestyle, tailoring diet, exercise, and relaxation plans to each person's unique needs to ensure a well-rounded and diverse lifestyle. We engage in open discussions with the young individuals regarding their dietary requirements.

Furthermore, we foster and assist our young individuals in maintaining their health by accompanying them to the gym and participating in local sports activities.

Our Admission process

Initial Enquiry: If you're a social worker or commissioning officer interested in our services, reach out to us via phone or email. If we have availability, we'll ask you to send a profile or referral form for the individual you wish to place.

Evaluation: Our Service Manager and Nominated Individual will carefully assess the provided profile to determine if Brighter Stays is the right fit. We consider various factors such as the needs of current residents, the potential resident, their fit into our community, local considerations, and alignment with our mission.

Additional Information and Visit: We may request more details to inform our decision. An initial visit will be arranged to assess compatibility, which may include risk assessments, pathway plans, and meetings with relevant parties.

Matching Assessment: If we believe the individual may be suitable, a comprehensive matching assessment will be conducted.

Transition Planning: Our Service Manager and Nominated Individual will work with the placing social worker to organize the moving-in process and transition plan.

Home Visit and Stay: The individual, their social worker, and family members (if applicable) will be invited to visit our home. Ideally, this includes an overnight stay to evaluate immediate needs, unless it's an emergency placement. Our manager will assess support requirements and resources to make a placement decision aligned with the individual's pathway plan and all necessary documentation.

We aim to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for individuals seeking placement at Brighter Stays.

Health

The arrangements for and policies on protecting and promoting the mental and physical health needs of children, including medication handling, recording and safekeeping.

The physical and mental health of our young people will be of paramount importance. We actively promote a healthy lifestyle, which is applied to planning diets, exercise, and relaxation specific to the young person’s needs to ensure a balanced and varied lifestyle. All dietary needs are discussed with the young person.

We encourage and support our young people to keep themselves healthy by attending the gym with them and playing sports locally.

Nurturing Supportive Relationships

Research indicates that the majority of young people eventually leave the care system to reunite with their families. Thus, it's crucial for us to support and encourage meaningful interactions with family members and other important individuals in the child's life.

We also assist in implementing any reunification plans outlined by the local authority. During placement meetings, we discuss and plan contact arrangements, committing to facilitate these interactions either within our home environment, in the local community, or by transporting the child to agreed-upon venues.

Safeguarding

Brighter Stays Child Safeguarding policy and procedures are drawn from the guidelines laid down by Local Authorities in their Safeguarding Children Boards procedures, a copy of which is available in the home.

The policy has been sent to the local safeguarding children’s board. Our HR, Safeguarding & Training Manager is the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) Jess George and Emmah Nyakurerwa. Safeguarding and Child Sexual Exploitation Training is provided as well as Online Child Protection Training for both staff and our young people.
