Facilitating Learning Pathways: Supporting Children's Participation in Education, Training, and Employment

The residence is not accredited as a school. However, we prioritiae facilitating the young person's attendance at sixth form or college and take steps to promote their educational attainment.

Upon referral, our team collaborates with the accommodating authority to assess the most appropriate educational pathway for the young person. We maintain strong connections with various mainstream sixth form and specialised colleges in the local vicinity.

In instances where young individuals struggle with mainstream education, we explore alternative educational programs. We advocate on their behalf, representing their interests and advocating for necessary support to ensure their educational needs are met.

Education holds a paramount importance for our young people as we recognise their fundamental right to an education that enriches and empowers them.

Our staff actively promote and encourage each young person's education by collaborating with the local authority to facilitate enrollment in local educational establishments whenever feasible.

Should enrollment delays or mismatches with assessed needs occur, guidance from the Virtual Educational Head/Lead will be sought and followed. In cases where deemed appropriate, discussions and agreements with the Accommodating Authority may lead to the commissioning of 'home tutors' to provide one-to-one support tailored to maximise learning and enhance engagement.

For young individuals with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), the home diligently adheres to the plan and collaborates with all professionals involved in its implementation.

The home provides ample space for private study, leisure activities, hobbies, and confidential meetings. All computers and laptops within the home are equipped with internet security measures, and supervision is implemented as deemed necessary.

Our staff will support, wherever it’s appropriate and feasible to encourage the participation in training, apprenticeships and employment.

There is adequate provision for private study, activities, hobbies and private meetings within the Home. All computers/laptops within the home have internet security and activities supervised as and when appropriate.

Our staff will support, wherever it’s appropriate and feasible to encourage the participation in training, apprenticeships and employment.

Aid and Support

Staff are responsible for assisting and supporting with homework completion in a conducive learning environment. Homework takes precedence, and evening activities are organised to accommodate its completion and preparation for the following day.

Research on resilience and attachment underscores the importance of establishing a secure base for young individuals, fostering a sense of safety and encouraging exploration of new experiences and activities. At Brighter Stays, we advocate for regular activities and promote healthy living among all the young people under our care. Every young person is encouraged to participate in a wide range of sports, hobbies, and new experiences tailored to their interests.

These activities encompass both team-oriented pursuits like football or cricket clubs and individual endeavors such as karate, art classes, or gym memberships. We believe that engaging in such activities not only enhances a young person's self-esteem and identity but also facilitates the development of appropriate social and interpersonal relationships.
