PROTECTION OF CHILDREN

Child Welfare in Supported Accommodation

Brighter Stays maintains thorough and detailed safeguarding policies, including procedures for addressing incidents when young individuals go missing from care. These policies are readily accessible upon request from our Training and HR manager.

Brighter Stays' Child Safeguarding policies and procedures are derived from the guidelines established by Local Authorities through their Safeguarding Children Boards procedures, with a copy available in the facility. The policy has been forwarded to the local safeguarding children’s board.

Our HR, Safeguarding & Training Manager, Jess George, and Emmah Nyakurerwa serve as the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL). We offer Safeguarding and Child Sexual Exploitation Training, along with Online Child Protection Training for both staff and young individuals in our care.

All incidents, disclosures, and complaints are meticulously documented and promptly reported to relevant external agencies and professionals, following established procedures to ensure the safety of the young person involved.

At Brighter Stays, we foster a supportive learning and living environment for our young individuals. Our approach emphasizes nurturing culture, with tailored support and training to enable our staff to develop strategies for building positive relationships with children and young people. Upholding dignity and respect is always our foremost priority.

Celebrating Achievements and Good Behaviour

Religious and cultural activities will be identified during the referral and care planning stages. All significant religious and cultural activities for the young person and their family will be diligently researched and fully supported by the staff team.

We offer various methods to celebrate achievements and positive behavior, prioritizing a constructive approach to managing behavior. Our aim is to de-escalate negative behaviors while actively rewarding and acknowledging positive conduct whenever possible. We advocate for a tranquil and supportive home environment, fostering trusting relationships that enable children and young people to regulate their emotions and express their feelings in healthier ways.

We understand that, due to past trauma, abuse, maltreatment, and neglect, young individuals may have developed maladaptive coping mechanisms. Therefore, we implement rules and boundaries to uphold the safety and well-being of both staff and young people at all times. These boundaries revolve around socially acceptable behavior, ensuring that young individuals are consistently safe, respected, and well cared for.
